I felt like my gouache paints were calling out to me again, so I decided to paint the banana that was on my desk.

I first went in with the lightest color of yellow and then added the darker tones afterwards. I later used a light green colored  pencil on the neck and end of the banana to indicate parts of its unripeness.

The end result surprised me, and it is one of my favorite paintings that I’ve done so far.  I was going to send it as a post card to my brother’s girlfriend, but I thought it was too good to put in the mail unprotected,  so I opted for a mailer.

Amin says that my painting reminds him of Andy Warhol’s Banana (1967) that was used on the The Velvet Underground’s album artwork.

Personally, it reminds me of Comedian (2019) by Maurizio Cattelan, the “iconic” banana duct-taped to a wall that’s considered conceptual art — something I’m not too sure how I feel about.
