I’m looking through my old sketchbooks and scanning images I have yet to share. I came across blind contour drawings from when Amin and I first started dating. After warming up, I was able to capture Amin’s eyes—one of the many features I love about him.
I didn’t practice drawing myself much, hence me looking like a much older woman.
I first learned of blind contour drawing from Koosje Koone, an artist from the Netherlands and co-founder of Sketchbook Skool. In the tutorial below, she shows us her process of drawing a self-portrait without lifting her pen from the paper.
Why not give it a try! The results are usually wonky and out of proportion, but you might capture something you thought you never could.
