Our engagement coasters
Our engagement coasters arrived! People online don’t know, but we got engaged and are planning an engagement party for the 4th of July, out of all days. I laugh at the date because it’s not like us to be patriotic, but Amin has been planning it for weeks.
His logic was that it’s easier for guests to join us for a 3-day weekend than to ask for a day off. So the engagement party was either going to be on the 4th of July or Labor Day weekend in September. Even though I poke fun at the date, I prefer it to be this weekend, so we keep the engagement momentum going.
Tomorrow, my parents and aunts are flying in from Southern California, and my brother and my soon-to-be sister-in-law are flying in from Boston. I’m excited to have them here, especially my brother, since it’s his first time visiting our place. I think he’s going to love what we’ve done to decorate. The place screams Amin and Cecy.
On Friday, we have a pool party planned, and we can already envision Lydia reading by the pool, my dad napping under the canopy, and my mom and aunts becoming prunes in the hot tub all day. I can see my brother hidden away at our apartment studying for his Bar exam, but stopping by the pool for a snack while the burgers are cooking.
We’re all excited to see each other, and I think a 4th of July engagement party is all I could ask for. This group of people hasn’t been together in the same room for several years; it’s rare to have both siblings and their significant others together since we live on opposite sides of the country. I know my mom is going to overflow with happiness at seeing her two kids, engaged and celebrating together.
Since our engagement party is taking place at a plant nursery, we wanted to make party favors that propelled the plant theme. So I thought, why not draw the plants that are around our house? Each coaster features our favorite plants and the stories behind them. We wanted to give our guests a little piece of our home, a piece of functional art.
On Friday, during our pool party, I’m going to wrap them in green ribbon. It’s going to be a lovely, relaxed afternoon putting them all together.
