This week’s postcard is going out to one of my best friends, Bree, who I’ve admired since I met her in college. From the moment I hung around her, I was captivated by her free spirit, doing what she wanted in the way she wanted, knowing full well that she wasn’t like those around her. She was honest, real, and wittythings that many people on campus lacked.

Bree is one of the coolest people I know, so much so that when I would see her on campus, I would fangirl. She was a commuter, and I lived on campus, making our interactions limited but exciting. I’m pretty sure the reason we met was through our shared Intercultural Studies (ICS) degree. When I come to think of it, almost all of the ICS majors had their own vibrant, sometimes quirky, personality.

I’ve said this to Bree before, but she is like the older sister I’ve always wanted—creative, spunky, free—the fact she considers me her friend makes me feel special, like I’ve made it. The postcard below goes out because I want to thank her and let her know how much I appreciate her.

The image is Larmes (Tears) by Man Ray. The Getty analyzes the image below:

“Like the emotive expression of a silent screen star in a film still, the woman’s plaintive upward glance and mascara-encrusted lashes seem intended to invoke wonder at the cause of her distress. The face belongs to a fashion model who cries tears of glistening, round glass beads; the effect is to aestheticize the sentiment her tears would normally express. Man Ray made this photograph in Paris around the time of his breakup with his lover Lee Miller, and the woman’s false tears may relate to that event in the artist’s life.”

I have a feeling that Bree will appreciate this one.
